Loraas Disposal is proud to invest in training and development for all of our employees. From day one, new employees start their day with an orientation tailored to their area of work. Hands on peer-to-peer training and job shadowing help employees learn their new role at Loraas. The peer-to-peer training involves a combination of observation, application, and constructive feedback. The training peers selected have a wide range of experience in the organization. Loraas offers internal training in line with its respectful and team-focused atmosphere and engage staff in workplace values and consistently communicate expectations of the manner staff interact with one another and Loraas customers.
Loraas provides a formal Education Assistance Program which all employees are eligible to apply for. The training requested must provide both the employee and Loraas a perceived benefit to the employee's existing role and growth potential within the organization. In addition to financial compensation for tuition and time to ensure skills training, mentorship opportunities are also available.
The management team at Loraas support a mentorship culture and growth from within. Loraas’ leadership team works hard to foster an environment of constructive peer-to-peer, informal, and formal mentorship. Loraas' formal mentorship program is its apprenticeship program of Heavy Duty Equipment Technicians, Welders, and Industrial Mechanics (Millwright) through the SATCC. These journeymen guide our apprentices and provide them with a variety of learning opportunities, resulting in a 100% success rate when our apprentices attend formal institutional training.
Informal mentorship at Loraas includes all levels of the organization, as the leadership staff have open door policies with employees, encourage questions, and address challenges in the workplace as learning opportunities. In addition, projects within departments are shared to ensure all staff have the opportunity to learn new skills. While a formal mentorship program outside apprenticeship does not exist within Loraas, all leaders approach their employees as a mentor, and coach, and build mentor/mentoree relationships with their staff.
